Copenhagen Summit approves India's proposal
New Delhi, Dec 13, IRNA - New Delhi's proposal to set up climate innovation centers for developing and sharing green technologies has been approved at the ongoing Copenhagan conference.
One of the Centers will be set up in India. The decision marks a significant progress on the technology front which is one of the main focal points of Bali Action Plan.
The approval came after days of debate and opposition. Our Correspondent reports that each of the Centers will focused on key technological area and a product that helps in tackling global warming.
According to All India Radio (AIR), meanwhile, the Prime Minister's special envoy on Climate Mr. Shyam Saran has said that India and China should not expect any assistance from the industrialised world for undertaking mitigation and adaptation measure.
He said in New Delhi after attending the negotiation level talks in Copenhagen that the developed countries had announced 10 billion US dollars per annum at Port of Spain for addressing climate change in the developing nations but the amount has shrunk to 10 billion dollars for 3 years now in Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, captains of Indian Industry today said that legally binding carbon emission norms may affect India's development and have urged the rich nations to commit reproductions at the ongoing climate summit. /end
