Manama, Dec 13, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, reacting to the recent statements of US and UK officials against Iran, underlined that no country can prevent good relations between countries which is based on mutual interests and respect.
According to the Foreign Ministry Media Department on Saturday evening, Mottaki responded to a question by a reporter concerning US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton's statement that the deepening of ties between Latin American countries with Tehran is a 'very bad idea' which makes others worried about its consequences.
Clinton considers mutual ties between different countries with mistrust, Mottaki pointed out.
Such attitude contradicts with diplomatic principles and values based on the 1961 Diplomatic Convention and are out of accepted values of the third millennium and we deplore it, Mottaki underlined.
The establishment of friendly ties between countries is a certain principle of the UN Charter and no UN member can prevent others from establishing good relations upon mutual respect, Mottaki added.
Replying to another question about the Foreign Ministry's stand on President Obama's recent statement that Iran is playing with the international system and his support for the country's opposition groups, Mottaki said: "We witness actions like massacre of innocent people in Afghanistan and Iraq, continuation of horrible US prisons in Guantanamo and Afghanistan and other US secret prisons all around the world, creation of seven military bases in Latin America and ignoring ethnic cleansing by the Zionist regime which all indicate a clear contradiction and a big ambiguity in the US approaches."
He pointed out that Iranians with their national and Islamic values never allow any interference in their internal affairs.
He also reacted to the statements of the British Prime Minister and the US Defense Secretary on intensifying sanctions against Iran should it fail to accept international community proposals.
Using threats and sanctions are old fashioned tactics which have been used since President Bush; but when a nation wants to protect its technological achievements and act in accordance with International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) regulations, these words have no effect and even finally cause consolidation of national intention of Iranians in implementing their legitimate wishes, Mottaki stressed.
He further added that the time for threats and sanctions is over and such tactics have lost their effectiveness./end
