FM spokesman elaborates on Iran's nuclear policy

TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (MNA) – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has elaborated on Iran’s nuclear policy.

He said Iran’s stance towards nuclear issue is completely transparent, stating Iran’s nuclear plans are not covert.

“All countries seriously need to gain access to this (nuclear) knowledge to stand on their own and to be able to strengthen the groundwork for their independence,” Mehmanparast told ISNA.

Majlis has outlined long-term nuclear objectives and the administration should draw up required plans in order to pave the way for taking full advantage of nuclear energy to meet the country’s needs in the path of development, he added.

Pointing to the Iran’s crystal-clear nuclear rights, he said, “We never intended to pursue any plan outside the framework of the agency’s regulations.”

He added as a signatory to the NPT “we have said frequently that our rights should be fully observed.”

He went on to say that the ratification of the resolution against Iran in the Board of Governors was politically motivated and completely in contrast to the international law.

The world public opinion should be enlightened on the unfairness of this resolution, he emphasized.

Putting stress on the need for Iran to insist on its right path, he stated that Iran has called for a safe guarantee for the two-sided exchange of nuclear fuel.

Iran has already put forward its suggestions that “any country that produces nuclear fuel can sell it to us, but fuel production in Iran and fuel exchange are also possible,” he noted.

IAEA is required to provide all member countries with needed nuclear fuel meant for purposeful uses, he added.

Pointing to the Palestine-Israel issue, he said Iran believes that Palestinians should decide on their fate by holding a referendum.
