Iran elected UNIDO board member

VIENNA, Dec. 12 (MNA) – Iran has been selected as a member of the board of directors of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for a four-year term.


The 13th session of UNIDO opened in Vienna on Monday and lasted for five days.


This year's meeting focused on "green industries" and the opportunities they offer for developing countries in the current economic circumstance, Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, Iran's representative to UNIDO said.


Heads of states and governments, high-level officials from around the world as well as senior representatives of international organizations participated in the biennial general conference.


UNIDO is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its mandate is to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition, and work towards improving living conditions in the world's poorest countries by drawing on its combined global resources and expertise.


In recent years, UNIDO has assumed an enhanced role in the global development agenda by focusing its activities on poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability.
