Iranian filmmaker heading jury at Indian filmfest

TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (MNA) -- Iranian filmmaker Bahman Qobadi is heading the jury at the 14th edition of the Indian International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).

Iran’s “About Elly” is an entry to the competition section of the festival, which began on Friday and will continue until December 18.

Organizers will also be holding a retrospective of Qobadi in which all the feature-length movies directed by the filmmaker will be screened.

Qobadi’s latest production “No One Knows about Persian Cats” will soon be screened in India.

Qobadi made his debut with the film “A Time for Drunken Horses” in 2000, which received the Camera’d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His “Turtles Can Fly” represented Iranian cinema in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Annual Academy Awards in 2005. This movie also won the Golden Shell for Best Film at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 2004.

In addition, Qobadi’s “Half Moon”, a joint production of Iran, Iraq, Austria, and France, was selected to represent Iraqi cinema in the Oscar race in 2007.

His “Persian Cats” shared Cannes’ special prize in the Un Certain Regard category with “Father of My Children” from France in May 2009. It has also won the special jury prize at the 10th Tokyo Filmex in late November.
