WORKSHOP ON DRAFT NATIONAL MEDIUM TERM PRIORITY FRAMEWORK HELD IN BAKU
Baku, December 11 (AzerTAc). The government of Azerbaijan and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) held a final workshop in Baku on implementation of the five projects of the Draft National Medium Term Priority Framework (NMTPF).
The draft framework for Azerbaijan focuses on creation of favorable milieu for agriculture, livestock, forestry and fishery development; protection and management of natural resources; sustainable equity-driven agriculture production and income generation; improvement of rural infrastructure; strengthening the policy and legal framework for agriculture and rural development.
Azerbaijan`s Minister of Agriculture Ismat Abasov described the NMTPF as a structure that will allow achieving the national development objectives in agricultural and rural development as well as the development of farming, stock rasing, foresting and fishing, protection and management of natural resources and ensuring the sustainability of income-generating in the agriculture, and strengthening the legal framework.
The FAO officer for Azerbaijan Mustafa Sinaser said up to now FAO has financed numerous projects in Azerbaijan worth 6 mln dollars. In 2009, the organization allotted 2 mln dollars for implementation of 6 projects. He said the NMTPF is a framework document prepared with each member country of FAO to outline the priority areas of work jointly implemented for duration of three years.
The event was attended by representatives from the donor communities, international agencies and financial institutions, NGOs and the private sector.
