Monument dedicated to soldiers inaugurated

Hanoi (VNA) – A monument dedicated to soldiers of the Soviet Union, Russia and Vietnam was inaugurated at Cam Ranh airport in the southern coastal province of Khanh Hoa on Dec. 10.

The work marks the 65 th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and
60 th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Russia diplomatic ties.

The monument, which is 21m tall and weighs more than 800 tonnes, was built since
2007 at a cost of more than 18 billion VND funded by the Vietnam-Russia oil and gas
joint venture, Vietsovpetro.

The monument, which was erected on the top of the 6m-high hill is engraved with the
names of 44 Soviet Union/Russian servicemen and 176 Vietnamese soldiers who died
during missions at Cam Ranh base and central Vietnam.

On this occasion, the State President and Prime Minister of Vietnam also awarded
Orders, Friendship Medals and Certificates of Merit to a number of units and
individuals in Vietnam and Russia in recognition of their contributions to
Vietsovpetro, which is considered a symbol of the Vietnam-Russia
