President Ahmadinejad condoles with Russian counterpart

Tehran, Dec 10, IRNA – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, conveyed his condolences to his Russian counterpart on the death of 88 Russians in a plane crash in the Perm city of Russia.

In a message to President Dmitry Medvedev, Ahmadinejad expressed his deep sorrow, over the tragic incident and also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the crash victims and the Russian nation. He hoped for the recovery of the wounded, patience for the victims’ family members, and the salvation of the departed souls.

An Aeroflot jet which crashed Sunday near Perm in Russia's Ural Mountains, killing all 88 people on board was an accident, Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin said.

Aeroflot said controllers lost radio contact with the plane around 5:20 a.m. Saturday. Moments later it plunged down, narrowly missing a densely-populated residential area on the outskirts of Perm.

The airline confirmed that there were no survivors and that the dead included 9 people from Azerbaijan, 5 from Ukraine and 1 each from France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Switzerland, US, and Turkey. Six of the dead were crew members.

Medvedev offered his condolences to the grieving families, while Russia's Transport Minister Igor Levitin was dispatched to Perm to personally head the probe into the cause of the mishap./end
