U.S. behind abduction of Iranian nuclear scientist: Majlis speaker

TEHRAN, Dec. 9 (MNA) -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said here on Wednesday that Washington and Riyadh are responsible for the abduction of an Iranian nuclear scientist in Saudi Arabia.

Commenting on this case and the abductions of other Iranian citizens by the United States, Larijani said, “The Americans should break the silence on the issue.”

The U.S. government has repeatedly abducted our citizens, “but they refuse to make any comments on their terrorist activities,” he stated.

Iranian nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri went missing while on an umra visit to Saudi Arabia last May. The Iranian Foreign Ministry says he was later handed over to U.S. forces.

Ten other Iranian nationals are being held in captivity by U.S. forces and five others are being held in detention at secret sites across Europe.

“It was quite clear that the U.S. abducted the Iranian nuclear scientist (Shahram Amiri) through a plot with Saudi Arabia,” Larijani said.

To uphold their dignity, “both countries are obliged to be answerable for their actions,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he emphasized the importance of observing international law, including the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which he said helps efforts to maintain peace in the world.

The Iranian parliament speaker also criticized the U.S. and its allies, including the Zionist regime, for violating the NPT, and called for serious efforts to put an end to every kind of breach of international law.
