Iran: US's threatening deadlines, not effective

Tehran, Dec 8, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast said on Tuesday that US's threatening deadlines will have no effect on Iran’s policy.

He made the remarks commenting on the latest statement made by White House spokesman Robert Gibbs who said on Monday that Iran had to respond to what he called the international demands on its nuclear programs until the end of the current Christian calendar year.

"Time is running out. That deadline is the end of the year," Gibbs told reporters in a news briefing on December 3, adding that if Tehran failed to meet the deadline, it would face new sanctions.

“Iran would not abandon pursuing its essential rights to posses the precious (nuclear) technology because of such comments,” Mihman-Parast told reporters at his weekly press conference.

Noting that sanctioning Iran was nothing new for the country, the spokesman said, “Each phase of these sanctions will bring us closer to self-sufficiency, independence and self-reliance.”

Mihman-Parast stressed that imposing new sanctions against Iran would also bear no results for Western states./end
