TEHRAN, Dec. 7 (MNA) — The 4th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) opened today in Bandung, Indonesia.

Representatives from APA member parliaments are participating in the three-day meeting. Majlis Vice Speaker Hassan Aboutorabi along with five MPs from the Iranian Parliament will represent Iran at the meeting.

Adopting over 10 resolutions including “Integrated Energy Market in Asia”, “Alleviating Poverty in Asia”, and “Combating Corruption in Asia” is on the agenda of the conference.

Indian and Kazakh parliaments to join APA

During the conference the Indian and Kazakh parliaments will officially join the APA, bringing the number of APA members to 41.

Before leaving Tehran for Bandung on Saturday, Mohammad Nejad-Hosseinian, the APA secretary general, said, “Draft resolutions prepared and finalized in 2009 by APA sub-committees will be adopted by member parliaments in the Bandung conference.”

Nejad-Hosseinian expressed hope that APA could adopt more effective measures towards the integration of Asian parliaments.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) was established in 2006 at the seventh session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP).

The APA Charter and Tehran Declaration lay out a framework of cooperation among Asian countries for “Asian Integration”.

The Indonesian Parliament hosts the fourth plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in Bandung (West Java Province), from December 7-10, 2009.
