20 Iranian films try their luck for Berlinale

TEHRAN, Dec. 6 (MNA) – German’s Anke Leweke, representative of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival is bringing a selection of 20 Iranian films to the festival’s board of selection.

Leweke, who was appointed by festival director Dieter Kosslick, left Tehran on Sunday. She watched 20 films during her stay and was to take copies of the movies with their English subtitles to Germany.

She personally liked some of the movies but said that all 12 members of the board will decide on entries to this year’s Berlinale, which will run from February 11 to 21, 2010.

“Tehran, Tehran” by Dariush Mehrjuii, “Being 40” by Alireza Raissian and “The Other One” by Mehdi Rahmani are among the films on the Iranian line up.

Iran’s cinema has actively participated in the festival every year.

Filmmaker Asghar Farhadi won a Silver Bear for best director for “About Elly” at the 59th Berlin film festival last year, and two years ago Reza Naji won a Silver Bear prize for best actor for his role in director Majid Majidi’s “The Song of Sparrows”.
