DIPLOMAT SAYS NEW BASIC AGREEMENT BTW RUSSIA, EU TO BE ALL-EMBRACING
MOSCOW, June 4 (Itar-Tass) - A new basic agreement between Russia and the European Union will be all-embracing and will reflect the issues of economic cooperation, political dialogues, and development of the four common spaces -economic, freedom, justice and security, external security, science and education, Russia's envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov says in an interview published by the Nezavissimaya Gazeta daily.
He will stand at the head of the Russian delegation to the Russia-EU summit due in the West-Siberian town of Khanty-Mansiysk at the end of June. It is expected that the summit will open the doors to negotiations on the new basic agreement.
"The product of the talks - the new agreement - should be ahigh-quality one, and that's why I think it'd be wrong to make them fit any specific dates," Chizhov says.
"We don't pursue super-volumes or super-detailing and I'd like to be sure that an opportunity for signing separate sectional agreements remains after the new agreement is signed," he says.
As he mentions trade and economic aspects of the new document, he says much will depend on the specific conditions for Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization and on when that accession takes place.
"Until negotiations on the WTO are closed formally, it'll be difficult to consider concrete formulations for the Russia-EU agreement," Chizhov said.
