New Delhi, Dec 5, IRNA -- The 62nd International Islamic congregation began in Bhopal, capital of India’s Madhya Pradesh state, Friday morning.
The 3-day started with Namaz-e-fajir (morning prayer) in the presence of hundreds of Islamic scholars from India and abroad.
Hundreds of Muslims including Islamic scholars and intellectuals from across the globe are attending the congregation, the third biggest after the Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia and a meeting in Bangladesh, PTI reported quoting a top organising committee member.
The congregation began early this morning with the Namaz-e-Fajir (morning prayer) at which participants offered special prayers in the name of "Allah" for the well-being of the community, peace and harmony in the country and in the world.
During the congregation, Islamic scholars including Mualana Zubair-ul-Hasan (Hazrat ji), Maulana Saad, Maulana Laat, Maulana Mustaqeem, Maulana Ismail and others would deliver sermons on the life and practices of Prophet Mohammad, the teachings of "Quran" and on the Islamic Shariat (law).
The congregation was held annually at Tajul Masajid in Bhopal since 1949, but for the last four years it has been shifted to Eintkheri (Ghansipura) about 12 km from Bhopal due to the increasing number of groups.
Organising committee members Atiqul Islam and Ausaf Shahmiri Khurram said that about 85 countries including Saudi Arabia, Malasia, Indonesia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Iran, Canada and Sri Lanka are participating in the congregation.
They said that huge tents were errected in the area of about hundreds of acres of land at Ghansipura and about 600 hotels were made for the groups from India and abroad.
The Indian Railways has also opened their reservation counter at the Ijtema site, medical camps and fire brigade has also been established there to meet any emergancy there.
Police have made special security arrangements for providing safety and security to the Ijtema participants and CRPF, SAF and other companies of armed forces have been deployed to ensure peace at the site.
Organisers said that for the security of groups, several watch towers have also been errected at various locations of the venue to ensure basic facilities and amenities for them at the congregation site./end
