4 wounded in Pattani motorcycle bombing

PATTANI, Dec 4 (TNA) – A motorcycle bomb blast near a fresh market in Pattani municipality injured four people including two soldiers and two residents, according to local police.

Pol Col Manus Sikasamus, superintendent of Pattani Police Station said the injured victims are Sgt-Maj. Pansak O-cha, 44, Pvt. Sutat Puhom, 22, Waraporn Chutat, 42, and Jai Fongsuwan, 46. All have been hospitalised at Pattani Hospital.

Police determined that a five-kilogramme homemade bomb was planted in a motorcycle parked on a bridge on Sai Buri Road near a vendor's stall.

Forensic experts have collected shrapnel and other evidence at the crime scene for evidence before tracing the bombers.

Earlier, two truck drivers were shot dead and burned beyond recognition afterward by an unknown number of assailants in a pickup truck Monday in Pattani.

The latest attack occurred just days ahead of Malaysian Primier Najib Razak’s official visit to Thailand on Tuesday and Wednesday (December 8-9).

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his Malaysian counterpart are scheduled to visit Thai southern border province of Narathiwat to observe development projects there as part of the Thai government’s attempt to ease the violence in the deep South by raising the quality of life of local residents.
