Istanbul hosting ‘Glory of Iran’s Culture’ exhibit

An exhibition themed ‘Glory of Iranian Culture’ opened in Topkapi Museum in Istanbul on Wednesday with the aim of introducing the country’s handicrafts and masterpieces.

According to a report by the Public Relations Department of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, some 300 works from Iran’s National Museum and five great museums in Istanbul dating back to the post- and pre-Islamic eras are in display at the event.

Works on display include swords of Shah Abbas and guns of Shah Tahmasb and Mozaffaraddin Shah which are kept in Istanbul museums.

Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Hamid Baqaei delivered a speech at the inaugural ceremony of the event in Istanbul.

Topkapi Museum is the third great museum of the world which is visited by more than two million tourists from around the world.

The Topkapi Palace in Istanbul was the official primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans in the city for almost 400 years, from 1465 to 1853.

After the end of the Ottoman Empire in 1921, Topkapi Palace was transformed into a museum of the imperial era by a government decree on April 3, 1924.

The palace complex has hundreds of rooms and chambers, but only the most important ones are open to the public today.

The exhibition will last for 63 days.
