Meeting of Asian mayors representatives opens in Tehran

TEHRAN, Dec. 2 (MNA) -- With the participation of Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, the meeting of Asian Mayors’ representatives has been inaugurated here on Wednesday.


Attended by a number of experts from Bahrain, Oman, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Vietnam, and Palestine, the conference will run until December 4.


After the first fruitful meeting of the Asian Mayors Forum (AMF) in November 2008 in Tehran the participants decided to hold an expert meeting to follow up the implementation of the programs outlined in the event.


The programs were aimed at establishing constructive and friendly relationship between city managers in a bid to improve the living standards throughout Asia.


The experts will also discuss and draw up the draft plan for the second meeting of the AMF.


The draft will be presented to the second meeting of AMF in 2010 and after the ratification it will turn into the official charter of the AMF.


The first Asian Mayors Forum was held in Milad Tower, Tehran, from November 19 to 20, 2008. A total of 44 mayors from 33 Asian countries, representatives from the UN, the EU, the OIC, ECO, and many other international bodies participated in the conference.
