India’s Third Eye festival to hold Iranian filmmaker retrospective
TEHRAN, Dec. 1 (MNA) -- The Third Eye Asian Film Festival will hold a retrospective of the renowned Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi.
The festival, to be held from December 4 to 10 in Mumbai, has dedicated its Filmmaker in Focus Section to screening three of Panahi’s films whose titles have yet to be announced.
Panahi was selected as the jury member of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF) this year however the travel restrictions imposed by Iranian authorities upon some cineastes hindered the celebrated filmmaker from joining the event.
A total of 20 Iranian short films will be competing at the festival including “Tehran” by Kaveh Oveisi, “Life” by Shabnam Qolikhani, “Boomerang” by Dariush Gharibzadeh, “The Empty Fish Bowl” by Atefeh Khademorreza, “Whistling Underwater” by Hushmand Varaei and “Dad Gave Water” by Mehdi Jafari.
Established to promote Asian cinema, the festival gives the Asian Film Culture Award to filmmakers who are making efforts to popularize Asian cinema in the world.
World-renowned Iranian director Majid Majidi received an award at the festival in 2006 for his film “Weeping Willow” which was screened during the closing ceremony of the event.
In addition, the Iranian comedy “A Few Kilos of Dates for a Funeral” won the festival’s Best Film Award in 2007.
