Fabiano farewells Melbourne Victory
The mostly misfiring nature of Melbourne Victory's attempts to add Brazilian flair
have again been shown up with the sudden exit of striker Ney Fabiano.
The 30-year-old scored five goals in 16 appearances in his maiden A-League season
last summer, but was not used in the grand final victory.
He has scored just once in 14 games this season, with even the in-season departure
of striker Danny Allsopp not enough for him to become a regular starter.
Fabiano's failure to establish himself has prompted the Brazilian journeyman to join
Thai team Bangkok Glass FC, effective immediately, with the Victory's blessing.
"He wants to play regular first-team football and we understand that," Victory
football manager Gary Cole said.
Fabiano, recruited by Victory from Thai club Chonburi, joins 2006-07 Victory players
Claudinho and Alessandro as Brazilians who have failed to shine with the two-time
A-League champions.
The shining exception is Fred, the attacking midfielder who joined the club along
with his two countrymen in 2006-07 and played a huge part in Melbourne winning their
inaugural title that season.
But even he spent just one season with the Victory, before being lured away by US
MLS club DC United.
Fabiano said he was sad to leave Melbourne, "but I am a professional, and my life
will now continue in Thailand".
