Tehran, Dec. 1, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Monday criticized the recent IAEA resolution against Iran as well as those countries that are casting unjust and discriminatory votes against Tehran.
Mottaki made the remark in a joint press conference with visiting Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko in Tehran on Monday.
“We hope these countries voting against Iran will review their attitude wisely,” he said.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is to continue its legal and transparent approach to this end, said Mottaki.
The recent resolution issued by the IAEA against Iran has weakened the international body, he said, adding, “We are concerned about the IAEA Board of Governors, IAEA as well as UNSC.”
The activities of certain segments of media in the past two days proved that they are to start a new game suing others’ capabilities and facilities, he said.
“We have lauded Malaysia, Cuba and Venezuela for their brave votes and will also take into consideration those which abstained in the voting,” Mottaki said.
Mottaki said Iran has found no legal justification for IAEA’s recent resolution against the country.
“We cannot tolerate discrimination in international relations under any circumstances,” he underlined.
“If there is a right for every country in an international treaty or convention, it should be applied to all,” Mottaki said, adding that Iran is to use its nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
The Islamic Republic has adopted rational and clear stands on all issues, he said, noting that Iran joined the NPT 40 years ago and has had sincere cooperation with IAEA during the period.
Thanks to technological progress, world nations are well informed of global developments and events and the fact is that they never accept unjust behavior to this end, he said.
Tehran’s medical reactor has been engaged in production of uranium for medical use in the past 40 years, Mottaki said.
Before the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, the Americans used to provide Iran with nuclear fuel for its medical reactor. Following the Islamic Revolution, the nuclear fuel was purchased from Argentina, he noted.
Based on IAEA rules, any country possessing such facilities should be provided with nuclear fuel easily, he said.
Iran has given its reply to Vienna meeting in due time, but they try to convince the world public opinion that the country has refused to do so by this time, Mottaki said.
Referring to the 2-day Iran-Russia talks, Mottaki said both sides held fruitful negotiations on boosting cooperation in the fields of energy, nuclear energy, industry, mining, agriculture, science, research and technological know-how, aviation, telecommunications, education, commerce, finance, banking, transportations and fisheries.
For his part, the Russian energy minister said, “We do not want the current situation to get worse.”
Based on Russia’s interests, constructive agreement between Tehran and G5+1 is of prime importance and under no circumstances do we want the current situation to become more complicated.
“I believe that the Iranian negotiators are very experienced and there is no need to politicize the issue,” he said.
“There are good potentials for continuation of talks between the parties and we hope both sides will reach a peaceful solution by respecting each other,” the Russian official concluded./end
