Iranian film “Persian Cats” awarded at Tokyo
TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA) -- Bahman Ghobadi’s “No One Knows about Persian Cats” won the special jury prize at the 10th Tokyo Filmex, which was held from November 21 to 29.
The film, which shared the Special Prize in the Un Certain Regard category of Cannes 2009 with Mia Hansen-Love’s “Father of My Children”, was awarded with the festival’s special jury prize and $8,000 in Kodak color film stock.
Director Bahman Qobadi’s “Persian Cats” explores the underground music scene in Tehran and the situation of young musicians in Iran.
The grand prize of the event went to “Breathless” by Yang Ik-june’s as did the festival’s audience award.
For its tenth anniversary Tokyo Filmex expanded its line-up to 61 titles, including a retrospective on French director Jean-Pierre Melville and a concurrent Korean Film Showcase.
