Construction of new nuclear plants, strong response to G5+1: Salehi

Tehran, Nov 30, IRNA – Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi said here on Monday that construction of 10 new uranium enrichment plants in Iran is a strong response to the unfavorable move by the Group 5+1.

The location of five sites have already been decided according to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s order, he said, adding that the plants will be built in the heart of mountains. Five other plants will be built throughout the country, he added.

The plants will be built in a safe place that cannot be threatened by any kind of attacks, he said.

Each of the new plants would have the capacity to supply fuel for a power plant as big as the Bushehr nuclear power plant, Salehi announced.

He regretted that Iran’s confidence building move was responded by such an answer by the Group 5+1, saying the West did not understand such a peaceful message by Iran.

The Islamic Republic had no intention of building new nuclear facilities and in fact the West forced the country to take such measures, the vice-president said.

Salehi reiterated that the recent anti-Iran statement was not issued by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and was in fact issued by members of the Group 5+1.

Tehran had decided to import part of its needed fuel for its nuclear reactors while it was to supply fuel inside the country by itself, he noted.

The Western colonial power does not believe that it is facing a great and independent Iranian nation, Salehi said.

Referring to Iran’s transparent policies, he said all Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities are under direct supervision of the IAEA inspectors.

Top Iranian officials, in particular, the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, has repeatedly announced that the Islamic Republic was not pursuing nuclear weapons, he said.

Condemning the West’s rotten dual policies, he stressed that the Iranian nation would by no means abandon its legitimate rights.

He reiterated that Tehran is also committed to all its international obligations and hopes that the West would understand its peaceful message./end
