Iran's Navy defends territorial waters: Commander

Tehran, Nov 29, IRNA -- Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Sunday that the Iranian Navy defends territorial waters and national interests citing military campaign against sea piracy.

Sayyari was addressing a ceremony to honor retired personnel and war veterans of the Iraq-imposed war (1980-88) on November 28 which marks the Day of Resistance and Sacrifice. On this day, Iraqi oil exports were disrupted by military operation codenamed ‘Morvarid’.

The operation was unique in its own because it brought about the best result as expected. It destroyed the enemy’s economic strategy at the very beginning, he said.

Stressing the need to compile memoirs of the war veterans during Iraq-imposed war, he said that the task has begun since last year and currently the second volume is being completed.

He said that the memoirs are expected to amount to 32 volumes.

Referring to strong presence of Iranian Navy in Gulf of Aden since last year, Sayyari noted perseverance of Iranian Navy to defend national interests in international waterways./end
