Iran finishes 3rd in FIBA Asia U16 Championship

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov. 28 (MNA) -- Iran basketball team won the bronze medal in the FIBA Asia U16 Championship on Friday.

Iran and the Philippines shared the honors during a keenly contested regulation time - which ended level at 70 for both teams - before the former forced their way to victory in overtime.

Iran beat its rival 83-73 and seized the bronze medal and became the only team to win a medal in all three previous FIBA Asia official competitions.

Iran had won the gold at last year’s FIBA Asia U18 Championship at home - ahead of Kazakhstan and Syria. And more recently, the WABA giants had retained their title at the FIBA Asia Championship - ahead of China and Jordan.

China completed their championship unbeaten run by defeating South Korea 104-69 in the final game.
