Men questioned over Coolaroo gunfight
Two men remain in hospital following a gunfight inside a Melbourne home, with
detectives shocked by the number of shots fired.
"It's a highly unusual incident and it's unusual to experience this amount of shots
being exchanged," Armed Crime Squad Detective Sergeant Paul Tymms said on Sunday.
Three men and a teenager were injured in the shootout at Coolaroo in the state's
north about 10.25pm (AEDT) on Saturday night.
The 17-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The other three injured men fled the scene after the incident and were found by
police at the Northern Hospital.
The men, a 24-year-old Gladstone Park man, a 31-year-old Gladstone Park man and a
33-year-old man from Fawkner, were placed under hospital guard.
"A number of people are assisting us with our inquiries at the moment and we still
need to speak to them further to ascertain exactly what's occurred here (Saturday)
night," said Sgt Tymms.
Two of the men have since been released and are now assisting detectives.
Sgt Tymms said the injuries consisted mostly of leg wounds and none of the injuries
were life-threatening.
Bullet holes can be seen on the outside of the Pearson Crescent house although most
of the shots were fired inside.
"Thankfully it doesn't occur that often," Det Sgt Tymms told reporters.
"It's the first time I've seen such an exchange of gunshots between the two parties."
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has since received information
about the shooting.
Detectives earlier questioned four men not injured in the shooting, ranging in age
from 20 to 41 - from Coolaroo, Tullamarine, Craigieburn and Port Melbourne.
A vehicle has been seized from the Northern Hospital for forensic examination.
No charges had been laid at this stage.
