GERMANY RESEARCH INSTITUTE PREPARES REPORT ON ARMAMENT IN SEPARATIST AREAS
Berlin, November 27 (AzerTAc). The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) has prepared a report on arms control and military trust in the territories of frozen conflicts in the post-soviet area.
The report deals with armament and international control over this process in Transdnistria, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
The report says armament process in separatist regimes remains out of international control, posing threat to the regional peace. It particularly appeals to Nagorno-Karabakh.
PRIF`s scholar, member of the Azerbaijan Students and Scholars Union Azer Babayev contributed to the report designed for the German Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs.
The report indicates that Nagorno-Karabakh problem is the interstate conflict unlike other ones in the post-soviet area. According to the document, thousands of Azerbaijanis were uprooted from their homes in not only Nagorno-Karabakh but also Armenia.
The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) was founded in 1970 by the government of the state of Hesse as an independent foundation. Its constitution guarantees PRIF full academic freedom. PRIF does not carry out any commissioned research. With more than 60 members of staff PRIF is to date the largest as well as the oldest peace research institute in Germany.
PRIF´s work is directed towards identifying the causes of violent international and internal conflicts, carrying out research into the conditions necessary for peace, understood as a process of decreasing violence and increasing justice, and spreading the concepts of peace. Within the framework of its political consulting, research results are converted into practically orientated options for action that find their way into the public debate.
