Brumby hails separated twins' medicos

The medical team that successfully separated conjoined twins Krishna and Trishna
have made all Victorians proud, Premier John Brumby said on Thursday.
The team of surgeons and nurses were honoured at Government House in Melbourne for
the 32-hour marathon surgery.
"It's a wonderful way to finish the year with a story about the human spirit and
inspiration and immense achievement," Mr Brumby told the team, gathered in front of
Victorian Governor David de Kretser and other dignitaries.
"We say thank you and we obviously all hope, wish and pray for continued success in
the post-operative period for Trishna and Krishna."
Mr Brumby said the story of the Bangladeshi twins, who were brought here by the
Child First Foundation for the separation surgery, has lifted people's spirits.
The two-year-old twins have been moved from intensive care after last week's surgery
and are recovering in hospital in a stable condition.
Wirginia Maixner, director of neurosurgery of the Royal Children's Hospital, said
she was proud to stand next to her colleagues in accepting the honour.
"It's an incredibly proud moment to stand her before my colleagues and friends and
to have accomplished such a great thing," she said in a big smile.
