Tehran-Caracas sign 280 agreements : Ambassador

Tehran, Nov 25, IRNA – Venezuelan Ambassador to Tehran, David Valesquez Caraballo has said that Tehran and Caracas have so far signed 280 agreements.
Talking to IRNA on the threshold of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to his country, he added that over 80 joint projects in the areas of energy, industry and agriculture have become operational between the two states.
Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Ahmadinejad arrived in Caracas this morning on the fourth leg of his five-day African-Latin American tour which has already taken him to Gambia, Brazil and Bolivia. The Iranian delegation is due to proceed to Senegal from Caracas.
The Iranian and Venezuelan presidents will review issues of mutual interest including further expansion of all-out ties and inking new agreements in different areas, the envoy added.
He further announced that the Iranian nationals can receive entry visas for 15 days on their arrival at Venezuela’s airports in line with the two states’ desire to boost bilateral relations, adding that the visa can be extended for a further period of 15 days.
A consular agreement which had been signed on April 4, 2009 will come into effect in the next few days, he added.
The Venezuelan ambassador underscored the importance of relations between the two countries’ youth, adding an agreement will be signed between Iran’s National Youth Organization and the Venezuela’s youth organization.
On Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, he reiterated that Caracas supports persuance of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes by the Islamic Republic.
Caracas is against interfering policies of foreign countries which are against growth and development of the Islamic Iran, he stressed.
Condemning the US and the Zionist policies towards Iran, Valesquez said Washington is interested in the regional resources.
On Western propaganda campaign against the existing relations between Iran and the Latin American states, he said the US has accused Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia of supplying uranium to Iran.
He also condemned the establishment of the US military bases in Colombia, saying such a move by Washington is only aimed at entering the region.
Rejecting the Western claim on Tehran-Caracas nuclear cooperation, he said President Hugo Chavez has only voiced the country’s support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
As to Iran-G5+1 talks, he said Iran has proved its transparency to the international community and has announced its readiness for broad cooperation on the issue.
He reiterated that Caracas is against imposing any kind of sanctions against Iran.
On Iran-Venezuela trade exchanges, he said bilateral trade exchanges stand at dlrs 4 billion, he said the two nations are willing to further boost cultural, social and tourism relations.
Iranian companies have so far built some 10,000 housing units in Venezuela, he said expressing hope that the figure would reach 17,500 units.
Venezuela is also planned to export petrol to Iran, he added.
He further noted that the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) and the Venezuelan news agency are to boost bilateral news cooperation, expressing hope that IRNA would open an office in Caracas soon./end
