Russia rejects US expert's baseless claim on Moscow-Tehran ties

Moscow, Nov 25, IRNA – The Russia Foreign Ministry rejected a US expert’s claim on Moscow’s nuclear military assistance to Tehran as unfounded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening in Moscow, the foreign ministry further stated that Russia-Iran’s cooperation is within the framework of limitations set by the UN Security Council resolutions.

The US expert who is a member of disarmament committee, claimed that Russia is helping Iran to advance its nuclear program.

The only fact that should be recognized and considered is the report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding Iran's nuclear activities, the statement underlined.

Russia is a member of Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and is totally committed to its obligations concerning prevention of production of mass destruction weapons in the world.

The IAEA in its latest report in November 16, 2009 underlined that there is no military nature in Iran’s nuclear activities.

Moscow is only involved in the construction of the Bushehr Power Plant and has no other participation in the construction of Iran’s other nuclear centers, the statement concluded./end
