Top commander: IRI’s navy, unique in world

Bandar Abbas, Nov 24, IRNA – The Commander of the IRI Navy Zone One said that the power of the country’s navy is unique in the world; has been confirmed, and praised by world military experts.
Rear Admiral Fariborz Qaderpanah, who was speaking at a press conference in Bandar Abbas, the southern Iranian port city, on Monday evening, added: “Full demolishing of the Iraqi Navy during the first seventy days of the Iraqi-imposed war, launching successful attacks against the enemy’s offshore facilities, providing full security coverage for the frequenting commercial ships during the war time, and meanwhile, keeping open the main passage of Iran’s economy, comprise the most glorious parts of the IRI Navy’s record.”
He said, “Throughout the years of the Sacred Defense the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy escorted over 10.000 commercial ships from the Sea of Oman and the Hormoz Strait to the north most part of the Persian Gulf, that is the Imam Khomeini (P) Port in Khuzestan (Province), safeguarding them against the attacks of the Ba’thi enemy, which is a unique record in the history of world navies.”
He reiterated, “Presently, the IRI Navy, while trying more and more every day to increase its defensive readiness and its self-sufficiency capability in the field of manufacturing naval military facilities and also acquiring the capability to manufacture large and small warships, keeps round-the-clock patrolling in the region of the Strait of Hormoz and the Sea of Oman, monitoring the movements of the other forces that are stationed in the zone.”
Qaderpanah added: “The Iranian commercial ships and offshore facilities, too, as our national assets, are permanently under the supporting umbrella of the IRI Navy.
The top official added” “Following the occurrence of a number of piracy attacks in the Gulf of Aden, so far we have dispatched four small warships to that region, that is located 2.000 kilometers away from the Iranian shores and this move has been very effective in ensuring the security of the commercial ships passing that zone.”
“In addition to the obvious role that the IRI Navy plays in providing security in the Gulf of Aden, this military presence has led to increased power of the Iranian Navy and boosted the national pride of our country’s commercial naval fleet in the world,” Qaderpanah reiterated./end
