Iran, Gambia ink joint communique on expansion of ties
Iran and Gambia, in a joint communiqué, underscored the need for further expansion of all-out relations.
The joint communiqué signed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Gambian counterpart Yahya Jammeh, was read in a gathering of reporters in the Gambian capital city of Banjul on Monday.
The communiqué reiterated that the existing relations between the two states have entered a new stage.
Underscoring the need for materialization of the agreements reached between the two sides during the recent visit to Banjul of the Iranian delegation, the two presidents called for expansion of regional cooperation in order to help promote peace and stability in the entire region.
Meanwhile, Tehran and Banjul called for restructuring of the United Nations, particularly the Security Council.
Gambia, in the joint communiqué, welcomed expansion of ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the African states and lauded Iran’s key role in the establishment of peace and stability in the region.
President Ahmadinejad, heading a politico-economic delegation started a tour of five African and Latin American states on Sunday which would take him to Gambia and Senegal (African states) and Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil (Latin American countries).
