Iran launches first phase of aerial war game
Air forces of the Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps jointly launched the first phase of a nationwide aerial war game code-named “Defenders of Velayat 2” on Sunday.
Commander of Iran’s Khatamol-Anbia anti-aircraft unit Brigadier General Ahmad Mighani inspected the participating units before ordering the start of war game.
Iran had already declared that the war game will be started on Sunday and end on Thursday in western part of the country.
The maneuver has three phases including preparation of military units, reconnaissance flights and dog fights, he said.
The war game aims to display Iran’s deterrent military power in aerial combats, he said.
The war game will be held in an area about 600,000 square kilometers during which some of the most sophisticated defense systems will be examined, said the commander.
The aim of the war game is to make coordination and enhance combat readiness of the Iranian Air Force, IRGC and the Basij (volunteer) forces, he said.
The war game will be conducted in Bushehr, Fars, Yazd, Isfahan, Markazi and Gazvin provinces as well as in the northern and western parts of the country, pointed out the commander.
