Supreme Leader: Persian Gulf states must broaden cooperation

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that the Islamic countries, especially those in the Persian Gulf should further deepen cooperation to influence the international issues.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah in Tehran.

Referring to rich natural resources in the Persian Gulf region, the Supreme Leader said the countries which possess huge wealth should play better role in the scientific and financial progress of the world and the international issues, something which would be materialized only by expansion of mutual and collective cooperation.

"There is no doubt that this policy has its own enemies but these nations should make decisions based on their own interests."

The Supreme Leader recalled the US-backed Iraqi imposed war on Iran (1980-1988), and Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and said that Saddam practiced inhuman acts in contradictions with code of conduct with neighbors which resulted in huge damages to the neighboring countries.

The Supreme Leader lauded the stand adopted by the Kuwaiti government and its cooperation with Iran and said Iran fully welcomes expansion of all-out relations with Kuwait.

"The two sides should spare no efforts to prepare grounds to implement the agreements already signed."

The Kuwaiti premier, for his part, voiced satisfaction with the meeting and called Iran-Kuwait relations as deeply rooted with historical, cultural and religious commonalities.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran proved its friendship and brotherhood during the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam and we always regard Iran as friendly and brotherly nation,” he said.

The Kuwaiti government is determined to broaden all-out relations with Iran and would like to make use of Iran’s invaluable experiences in various fields, said the Kuwaiti premier.

He said Kuwait has given a negative vote to the UN Human Rights resolution against Iran which proved the country has adopted a decisive and stable stand on Iran.
