Iran ties with Africa, Latin America to gain new momentum
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Sunday that Iran's relations with African and Latin American states are to gain new momentum.
He made the remarks at Mehrabad International Airport prior to his departure for a five-nation tour which would bring him to two African (Gambia and Senegal) and three Latime American countries (Venezuela, Bolivia and Brazil).
At the first leg of his five-day trip, he will visit Gambia at the head of a ranking politico-economic delegation.
speaking to reporters at the airport, the president said that the five countries play key and determining roles in their own regions.
He added that Iran enjoyed amicable and profound bilateral relations with each of those states.
Referring to the high volume of economic, trade and cultural relations between the Islamic Republic and those five countries, President Ahmadinejad said efforts were being made to further boost bilateral cooperation with them in all areas.
Lauding Brazil’s influential role in the Latin American region, he reiterated that both Tehran and Brasilia were interested in further expansion of bilateral ties.
As for Iran-Venezuela bilateral ties, the president said the two countries enjoyed very friendly relations.
He said that in his talks with Venezuelan officials he would focus on the joint venture activities underway by the Iranian companies in Venezuela.
He added that, during his stay in the five countries, bilateral talks will focus on cooperation in the areas of energy, investment, trade, sciences and industries and that several agreements are expected to be inked on the issues.
Ahmadinejad reiterated that Iran, Brazil and Venezuela could play a determining role in establishing new systems in the world.
The three countries all together are considered as a great political, trade, economic and cultural power, he added.
The Iranin president said that he is for the first time accompanied by representatives of 150 Iranian private companies who are to have meetings with their counterparts in Brazil and Venezuela in line with expansion of bilateral cooperation.
