Iran, Turkmenistan to broaden parliamentary cooperation

Visiting Turkmen Parliament Speaker Akdzha Nurberdyeva conferred on Saturday with her Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani on ways to expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

Akdzha Nurberdyeva leading a high ranking parliamentary delegation arrived in Tehran on Saturday.

Larijani described Iran-Turkmen relations as excellent and friendly based on deep-rooted cultural ties.

Parliaments would support expansion of friendly ties between the two nations, Larijani said adding that they also could play vital role in implementing economic, industrial projects as well as help promote political relations.

The long water and land borders would serve as a significant element to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries, he said.

Iran is ready to broaden cooperation with Turkmenistan in gas sector to help the country easily find access to the Persian Gulf waters as well as the European markets, Larijani said.

Given Iran’s significant scientific progress in various fields mainly in oil and gas industries, Larijani said export of technical and engineering services to Turkmenistan would open a new chapter in ties between the two countries.

Highlighting sensitive regional developments in Afghanistan and Iraq, Larijani said that talks between Iranian and Turkmen parliaments would help bolster regional cooperation.

The Turkmen parliament speaker, for her part, said her country attaches importance to expansion of ties with Iran.

"Ties between Iran and Turkmenistan are very deep routed," she said.

Implementing joint projects helped create a new era of cooperation between the two sides, she underlined.

She said that Turkmenistan is eager to boost cooperation with Iran in energy sector, construction of new roads and expansion of tourism industry.

Iran’s significant achievements in various scientific fields has urged Turkmenistan to make use of Iran’s experiences in the fields, underlined the Turkmen parliament speaker.
