Preparation of 1st regional mummy museum underway in Yemen
MAHWEET, Nov. 21 (Saba)
- Practical steps have been taken to accelerate preparing and equipping the first
regional
mummy museum in Yemen.
The museum would be located in a historical building in al-Taweela city, dating
back to the Ottomani era, the general manger of the Monuments and Museums
Corporation in
Mahweet Mohammed Ahmed Quassim has said.
He clarified that the current efforts exerted towards getting local and foreign
sources to finance preparing and furnishing the museum which has been repaired and
maintained
in subsequently steps since 1997.
He affirmed the readiness of the museum since 2006 to show mummy samples which have
been found in rock cemeteries aged more than 3000 years ago and provided with
preservative
substances as well as a lot of rare monuments related to the first man who lived in
Arab Peninsula, which were found in the south-west of Mahweet and aged more than
85.000
years ago.
He pointed out that preparing this museum took more time than it was decided
because of the lack of funds, expecting the museum would be ready by 2010 .
Mahweet governor Ahmed Ali Mohsen held an executive meeting in which he discussed
the reasons behind the delay of completing the project on time and the proposed
solutions
to accelerate its implementation. Mohsen asked the concerned authorities to prepare
a special study on the required appliances and suggest the local and foreign sources
that
may fund the project.
