Iran, powerful country in region : Brazil

Tehran, Nov 18, IRNA – Brazil’s ambassador to Tehran said the Islamic Republic of Iran is a powerful country in the Middle East region.

Talking to IRNA, Antonio Luis Espinola Salgado added that both Iran and Brazil share various commonalities that can pave the way for further exchange of mutual views.

Noting that Iran-Brazil economic cooperation is growing, Salgado added that his country is keen to promote trade exchanges with Iran as well as making joint investments in projects.

During President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s upcoming visit to Brasilia, various agreements on bilateral cooperation in the areas of agriculture, technology, insurance, industries and commerce will be inked, Salgado noted.

Salgado believes that direct talks between the two presidents will remove existing obstacles in the way of expansion of bilateral cooperation.

The Brazilian Petrobras oil company is willing to participate in Iran’s gas and oil projects, the ambassador said.

In conclusion, Salgado said that Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is scheduled to travel to Tehran in the first quarter of 2010. /end
