El Baradei dismisses alleged secret deal with Tehran

Rome, Nov 18, IRNA – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General, Mohamed El Baradei has dismissed an allegation concerning a secret agreement with Tehran by a British newspaper in Italy on Tuesday.

Quoting ANSA, IRNA said that ElBaradei, who is in the Italian city of “Assisi” told reporters that the “Times of London” allegation regarding a secret deal between him and the Iranian government is a ‘total fabrication'.

El Baradei told reporters that he had not heard such a thing, reiterating that there is no secret deal at all. "We are trying to reach an agreement between the US, Russia, France and Iran; of course there is no agreement yet, but I am pleased to say that we have reached an understanding," ElBaradei added.

The Times of London in a story on Tuesday claimed that El Baradei has reached a secret agreement with Iran to end international sanctions against it for a wider cooperation of Tehran with the agency’s inspectors.

The paper claimed that they obtained a draft of a document with 13 articles which had been prepared by El Baradei in September according to which sanctions against Iran would be nullified by the end of November, when El Baradei’s tenure would end.

Based on the agreement, Iran can continue its nuclear program activity on condition that it is under IAEA supervision and as a part of international bank of nuclear fuel. And if Tehran remains committed to the agreement, the signatories will present a positive report to the United Nations to nullify sanctions against Iran./end
