Mottaki renews invitation to Indian Prime Minister to visit Iran
Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, here Monday renewed invitation to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh from President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad to visit Iran.
The invitation was extended during the meeting between Dr. Singh and Mottaki in New Delhi.
Mottaki, who is on a two day visit to India, met his counterpart, and the External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna and held delegation level talks covering a wide range of issues.
The two sides underlined the need for the early convening of the next session of the Joint Commission and discussed various projects including in the fields of oil and gas, power, surface transport and infrastructure projects like the Chabahar Port and the International North-South Corridor, said a statement issued by Ministry of External Affairs here Monday.
Deciding to add more economic substance to their centuries-old civilisational ties, India and Iran also discussed trade facilitation mechanisms and the need for an early conclusion of a Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, an Agreement for Avoidance of Double Taxation, was also discussed as a part of a Preferential Trade Agreement.
The two sides also took the opportunity for detailed exchange of views on important regional and international issues, including the threat of terrorism confronting the two countries.
It was agreed that an Indian Cultural Centre would be set up in Tehran and an Indian cultural week would be held in Tehran and Shiraz in the year 2010.
Mottaki, who arrived in New Delhi late night on Sunday on an official visit at the invitation of Krishna, also called on Vice President, Hamid Ansari Monday evening.
This is the first high-level visit to India by an Iranian official in the second tenure of the UPA Government, and also the first after reelection of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
