EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE FOR SOUTH CAUCASUS IN AZERBAIJAN
Baku, November 16 (AzerTAc). EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby has arrived in Baku for a one-day visit aimed at continuing consultations with the Azerbaijani government.
Semneby, who is coming to Baku from Ganja, the second largest city of Azerbaijan, will have a number of meetings with the country`s top officials on prospects for the EU-Azerbaijan cooperation, settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and Eastern Partnership Initiative.
In Ganja Semneby met Governor Eldar Azizov to praise the role of the city “both in the country and the region”.
They also discussed the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and Semneby reiterated the EU`s backing peaceful resolution of the dispute.
“EU supports peaceful settlement of the conflict, but we don`t have a right to interfere in the negotiations process.”
“I cannot say anything about the settlement of the conflict now, because EU is not a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. However, the European Union can and will play a role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We have a great experience in this regard which can help us with the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute as well.”
“As regards the negotiations process I can say that there has been some dynamics the last year. And we hope this will continue,” Semneby added.
