IRNA calls for further cooperation among Asian news agencies
Iran’s state news agency (IRNA) called Sunday on its Asian counterparts to boost intercontinental media cooperation by exchanging expert groups and conducting technical workshops.
The call was made during the 31st Executive Board Meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) which started in the Iranian capital on Sunday morning.
The meeting is being participated by 40 news officials of 18 regional news agencies from different parts of Asia and the Pacific.
Meanwhile, the OANA Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) is simultaneously holding its 25th meeting in the Iranian capital.
The meetings are being hosted by Iran’s Mehr News Agency with the theme of “A Quest for Global Media Balancing.”
The IRNA delegation has presented a detailed report to the meeting in which the Iranian news agency stressed that making further regional and multilateral media cooperation would effectively help correcting the present one-sided flow of information worldwide.
It was also stressed that media were playing a vital role in forming public opinion as well as family, social and cultural relations among nations.
IRNA also urged the need for reforming the present one-sided current of reporting by the major world media through strengthening the competitive power of the OANA member sates vis-à-vis their Western rivals to help restore peace and respect for national customs and cultures of other countries worldwide.
IRNA is one of the oldest members of the OANA that once has undertaken the organization’s rotating presidency for a three-year term.
