Iran, Venezuela to broaden mutual, regional cooperation
Venezuelan Ambassador to Tehran David N. Velasquez Caraballo said on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Venezuela are determined to broaden mutual and regional cooperation.
In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said that the two nations are the target of global hegemony requiring both Iran and Venezuela to further deepen all out relations and cooperation.
"History is a good evidence that the US has always pursued sinister goals across the globe such as in Latin America and Asian continent and that is why they are now masterminding various plots in Venezuela, Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran."
The ambassador said that Venezuelan president has recently underlined that Venezuela should exercise vigilance to thwart the US threats.
"US president has vowed to bring new changes but in reality there is nothing for change and the US is still pursuing the former devastating policies in the region."
Setting up new military basses in the Latin America, masterminding coupe in Honduras, weakening of Venezuelan government is among denounced policies of the US in that region, the ambassador said.
The fact is that the US president has no power to bring such a big change in the US administration and the global developments but he is apparently doing his best, he said.
"In Venezuela, the US continues with its sinister goals and try to topple the government. The Venezuelan president has warned its people that the country will experience a very tough time by the year 2012 which is set for the presidential election."
“We have many concrete evidence at hand proving that the US intelligent services are now masterminding various plots in the country,” the ambassador said.
On Iran’s civilian nuclear activities, the Venezuelan ambassador, said that President Hugo Chavez has always backed Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
“We believe that constructive talks between Iran and the U.N. Security Council members proved that Tehran has adopted transparent cooperation with global community and that there is nothing to hide from world public opinion,” said the ambassador.
He said that Iran is capable to produce 5-6 percent of enriched uranium to fuel power plants and has planned to provide 20 percent enriched uranium to fuel Tehran's research reactor built by the United States in 1960s.
“We believe that Tehran uses enriched uranium for medical purposes as well as generation of electricity for civilian use,” he said.
"Venezuela strongly condemns any sanction against Iran."
Iran and Venezuela are now cooperating on a research and development project on geography and mines and they have discovered new sources of uranium in Venezuela, he said.
At this juncture, Iran and Venezuela have no nuclear cooperation but in the future such cooperation might be established between the two countries, he said.
Venezuela does not generate uranium and there is no clandestine cooperation with Iran to this end, he underlined.
Western media try to shatter existing ties between Iran and Venezuela through introducing them as supporter of terrorism but the fact is that the people in Palestine and Lebanon have no support from outside and they with reliance upon their own capabilities adopt their own policies and strategies in fight with the Zionists, he said.
On export of petrol to Iran, he said the Venezuelan petrol bears the international standard and will be delivered to Iran based on the global market prices, he said.
During talks between the Iranian and Venezuelan presidents, they have called for expansion of regional cooperation such as ECO, D-8 in Asia and Mercoso (Southern common market) and ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the people of America) in Latin America, he said.
"Iranian president has called for adopting a single parity rate to cross out influence of dollar in regional businesses and the same policy has been pursued in regional contracts in the Latin America in order to put an end to monopoly of global arrogance.
On mutual economic cooperation between the two countries, he said some 200 memorandum of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries have been signed of which 80 percent of projects in agriculture, energy and industry have been implemented.
Expansion of tourism industry and exchange of visits between the two countries businessmen and investors could help broaden ties between the two nations, he said.
