Cooperation among Asia-pacific states will reduce West's hegemony

Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini said on Sunday that further cooperation among the Asia-Pacific states and their direct involvement in international developments would reduce West's hegemony and influence in those countries.

The minister made the remarks in an address to the opening session of the 31st Executive Board Meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) here which is participated by 40 news officials of 18 regional news agencies from different parts of Asia and the Pacific.

Meanwhile, the OANA Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) is simultaneously holding its 25th meeting in the Iranian capital.

The meetings are being hosted by Iran’s Mehr News Agency with the theme of “A Quest for Global Media Balancing.”

“Proper planning as well as OANA’s strategic performance would play a key role in foiling West’s massive attacks and media fuss against Asian states,” Hosseini said.

He noted that Western states were one-sidedly using media to pursue their own interests and achieve their goals by sowing discord among other countries.

Hosseini said that echoing positions of independent states was one of the major responsibilities of OANA.
