OANA meeting opens in Tehran
The Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) meeting opened Sunday in Tehran with a speech by Iranian Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Mohammad Hosseini.
Secretary General of OANA Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf, who is also the president of Indonesia’s ANTARA news agency, delivered a speech in the meeting as well.
The OANA 31st Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and the 25th Editorial-Technical Experts Group (ETEG) Meeting are being hosted by the Mehr News Agency in Tehran with theme of “A Quest for Global Media Balancing.”
Forty news officials of 18 regional news agencies from different states have been taking part in the OANA meeting.
The participating countries include India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Japan, Russia, Mongolia, Turkey, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand, Kuwait and Afghanistan.
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) as well as Fars News Agency are among the domestic participants.
OANA (Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies) is an association of news agencies from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) member states in the Asia-Pacific region.
It was formed in 1961 on UNESCO's initiative. It provides a news wire service containing articles donated by its members.
OANA meeting has been holding every three years and the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) is its first Iranian member.
