Thai PM attends APEC CEO summit, leaders meeting

SINGAPORE, Nov 14 (TNA) -- Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has a busy schedule Saturday as he will meet American businessmen, attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO summit 2009 and exchange ideas with APEC government leaders.

Mr Abhisit, now attending the three-day 17th APEC meetings in Singapore, which began Friday, meets American businessmen and briefs them on Thailand’s political and economic situation and ensure them that his government is ready to provide investment facilities if they are to invest in the kingdom.

Beginning at 9 am he was attending the APEC CEO summit 2009 with more than 800 leading businessmen from Asia and the Pacific and exchange ideas on how to deal with the global financial crisis and the aftermath of the problem.

He will join with his Australian and Mexican counterparts in speaking on the theme “Are our present models of regionalism such as APEC and ASEAN adequate”.

Mr Abhisit will join a luncheon to be hosted by Singapore President S. R. Nathan at his official residence, Istana.

Other highlights of the Thai prime minister’s Saturday schedule include meeting with the APEC Business Advisory Council which host Singapore has divided into five groups for APEC leaders. Mr. Abhisit is grouped with the leaders of Brunei, China and Canada.

This meeting is expected to focus on sustainable economic growth and to review global economic trends and directions. (TNA)
