PM Rudd arrives in Singapore for APEC
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has touched down in Singapore for the 17th annual APEC
leaders summit this weekend.
Mr Rudd arrived in the island nation on Friday afternoon and will deliver a speech
to students at the national University of Singapore.
He is expected to announce a new Australian scholarship program which will include
$18 million in new funding for foreign students studying in Australia.
On Saturday, Mr Rudd will attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
leaders's meeting when climate change, trade and the global financial crisis are
expected to be high on the agenda.
On the sidelines of the summit, Mr Rudd is expected to meet a number of regional
leaders including Indonesia president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, where they are
expected to discuss the people smuggling problems in the region.
