Digger hurt in Afghanistan bomb attack
An Australian soldier has been hurt by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, Defence says.
It is the second soldier to be hurt in the Asian country this week.
The soldier, from the 2nd Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force, sustained minor
shrapnel wounds when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated while he was on
operation in the south of the country.
Three Afghan National Army soldiers were also injured in the attack, one seriously.
The Australian digger and two of the Afghanis were flown to Tarin Kowt for medical
care, where they remain.
The other Afghan soldier returned to his base on foot with the rest of the patrol
group after receiving first aid.
Defence said the wounded soldiers were conducting a joint patrol north of Tarin Kowt
when they were attacked.
The Australian soldier's family has been notified of the incident.
