Tehran welcomes resumption of talks on Iran’s proposed package
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili said Sunday evening that Tehran welcomed resumption of talks with Western states on its proposed package.
Jalili made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Russia Deputy Foreign Minister for security affairs and disarmament Sergei Ryabkov.
Referring to the long history of Tehran-Moscow cooperation, the Iranian official said the existence of common threats and interests made it necessary for both capitals to boost their strategic cooperation.
Jalili stressed that members of the Group 5+1 should “completely take Iran’s technical and economic viewpoints into consideration” while discussing Tehran’s proposed package which was presented to the six states during the last month’s meeting in Vienna for supplying nuclear fuel to Iran’s research reactor.
Meanwhile, the Russian diplomat referred to Tehran-Moscow ties as “friendly” and “historic.”
He noted that he has, so far, held “constructive” talks with senior Iranian officials about issues of mutual interests.
“Russia gives great importance to promotion of ties with Iran as the country is a powerful and influential state in international arena,” Ryabkov stressed.
He praised Tehran’s “positive approach” during its talks with the Group 5+1 states stressing that continuation of the talks would benefit both sides.
Ryabkov confirmed that enrichment of Iran’s uranium inside the country is an “absolute right” for Tehran and a sign of Iran’s “logical attitude.”
Accepting Tehran’s idea that the talks on providing nuclear fuel to Iran’s research reactor “has completely an economic nature,” the Russian diplomat expressed hope that the talks would soon lead to a conclusion.
