AZERBAIJAN’S RUSSIAN COMMUNITY HELD 3RD CONGRESS
Baku, 7 November (AzerTAc). Yesterday Russian community in Azerbaijan convened its third congress.
About 320 representatives from 38 regional branches of the community attended the event.
As stated, Russians living in Azerbaijan are 160 thousand.
Opening the event, chairman of Russian community, MP Mikhail Zabelin wished success to the work of the congress.
Chief of Presidential Administration`s socio-political department Ali Hasanov read out the congratulatory letter by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The letter read that the biggest Russian community in the South Caucasus is in Azerbaijan, what is the evidence to the tolerance in Azerbaijan. President Aliyev noted that the rights and freedoms of all national minorities were ensured in the country, conditions have been created to protect their national, cultural values. The Russian community bore the loss for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“There is high level social tolerance in Azerbaijan. All conditions have been created for the protection of the national, cultural values of the national minorities in the country. Russian community does not function on paper, Russian government has always offered and will offer assistance to the Russian community,” Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin said.
Baku and Caspian Eparchy bishop Alexander said the Russians are voting citizens of Azerbaijan. “The multi-nationality is a wealth of Azerbaijan and Russian community is a part of this reality”.
Member of the parliament Mikhail Zabelin spoke about the work done over the past five years.
The inspection and mandate commissions submitted their reports and heads of different commissions and local organizations of the community addressed the congress. Mikhail Zabelin has been elected community leader.
Chief of socio-political department of the President Office Ali Hasanov, vice-speaker of the parliament Valeh Alasgarov, members of the parliament, representatives of Russian parliament, Moscow government, Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin, former ambassador Vasili Istratov, Count Pyotr Sheremetev, Prince Dmitry Romanov and others attended the event.
