Police commander: 109 arrested on sidelines of Nov 4th rallies

During the November 4th rallies some 109 suspects were arrested charged with disturbing public order and security, Tehran’s Police Chief Brigadier General Azizollah Rajabzadeh said on Saturday.

Speaking to IRNA, the commander said out of the total number, some 62 suspects including 43 men and 19 women were still in custody after fulfilling legal procedures while the remaining 47 were later released by Tehran’s police.

November 4th marks the anniversary of US embassy takeover in Tehran by a group of the revolutionary university students in 1979.

The day is commemorated each year by Iranians by staging massive rallies.

On the sidelines of this year’s rallies, acts were made by a group of offenders to disturb public order.

“The police which are responsible for preventing insecurity in the society would not allow a few persons to disturb public order by making unlawful acts,” said the commander.

He stressed that police would “firmly and lawfully encounter with those who are to cause social disorder.”
